About Me

My name is Kelly Gonzalez. I was born September 8, 1995 and am currently 15. My family is of great size. 6 brothers, 2 sisters, mom and dad. We come from Guatemala, where I would love to visit and meet my grandma. Most of my time is spent in Robotics where we build all kinds of robots!

LEGIT has began to be more productive and Diserea became the captain of  LEGIT. So far what we've done is ordered a couple of the components such as all the wiring stuff. Today we will order the bilge pump motors and the acrylic hall. One thing that I'm really concerned in is getting research done on the claw which should be able to twist and grab. So those are some of the things that are getting done in LEGIT d there will be a fieldtrip to FRY's electronics.

Earlier this week we had a meeting about NURC. During the meeting the missions were explained. So some things I jotted down was that our ROV will need a claw that is able to grab and twist itself. We will also need a thermometer in front of the camera to be able to check the temperature of the water. And something else is that we need to have at least half of the robot done by February to present it.

What I did this Week

Yesterday I went to the movies with Robotics. It was a movie about robots who battle each other and the last one standing is the winner. I thought the movie was pretty good except the teenagers were a little unproffesional.
Anyway, In robotics I'm learning to CAD. I'm taking to tutorial but there kind of hard. Hopefully I will learn it when my construction class starts. I will take a mechanical class and learn to build parts for the robot.

Over this past week I'v been working on the science experiment, LEGIT, and searching for sponsors. LEGIT stands for Leading and empowering girls into technology. This is an all girl team who will built an underwater robot. On the science experiment I found that theres a difference between a science experiment and an enginnering experiment or process. This really helped me because I was not able to find a hypothesis for our experiment and this engineering process was really helpful. I din't have too much luck with sponsors. But I will try harder and contact them. These are some of the things I've done in Robotics this week.

I just finished drilling holes on our toypedos. As a team, we discovered many ways to improve our toypedo  so that it travels straight and more than 3 meters. So were killing 2 birds with one stone and using that as our science experiment. In the near future I will be a Lego referee, so now i'm focusing on reading the rules and understanding them completely. I'm excited to be a mentor for the younger children, and helping them understand the game.

I arrived to Robotics at 4 and usually I'll get here at 3:00, the reason is that I went to Jack in The Box with a couple of friends. Unfortunately I missed the LEGO meeting, but liz said itwasn't a big deal, so I'm good. I was also gradually accepted into Martin and Meraz's science fair team and talked to Mr. Johnson about it and came up with an idea on an experiment. According to me and Johnson's brainstorming we decided that it would be a good experiment if the big question is "What makes the Best Toypedo Launching Mechanism." We have already created a toypedo launcher but the trick is to see what components we can change to make it the best Toypedo Launcher!☺

It was a sluggish day in Robotics today. The most productive thing that happened was the safety workshop hosted by Liz Perez. The students learned the basics in being safe in the construction room. They were also asked to organize and clean out the tool cabinet. I didn't have to do that because I'm a veteran, but I enjoyed watching the freshmen learning the tools and working together to get the job done.
